“The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge...I am in the Father, and the Father in me...the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works” (John 5:19, 30, 14:11, 10). This means when Jesus was talking to the fever and the storm and the tree, He wasn’t just saying something He came up with Himself. He was not speaking His own words. He was speaking the Father’s words. When He did, the Father who dwelt within Him did the work. This is the process by which the entire kingdom of God operates, and it will work for us the same way it worked for Jesus. Tune Out the Chatter “I just don’t think that’s true,” someone might say. “I’d never be able to operate like Jesus did.” Why not? As a born-again believer, haven’t you been re-created in His image? Don’t you have the same Holy Spirit delling in you that indwelt Him when He was on earth? Don’t you have the ability to hear and speak The WORD of God? Certainly you do! Then why wouldn’t the Father within you back up His WORD when you speak it in faith? Why wouldn’t He do the work necessary to bring it to pass for you just like He did for Jesus? The answer is obvious. He will! That’s why Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father” (John 14:12). It’s also why He said what He did to the disciples when they saw the fig tree and exclaimed, “Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11:21-23). Notice, Jesus didn’t say, “Now wait a minute, boys. Don’t you be trying to do this. Don’t go around talking to trees. Trees won’t listen to you. The wind won’t listen to you. The water won’t listen to you. They’ll only listen to Me because I’m the Son of God.” No, He said the exact opposite. He said even mountains will listen and move for “whosoever” will speak to them by faith! Add to this the fact that faith comes by hearing The WORD of God (Romans 10:17) and you’ll quickly see, if you want to do the works Jesus did, the first step is to get still and have ears to hear what God is saying. Tune out the chatter of the outside world. Stop listening to the fig tree and the fever and the storm. If you keep listening to them, you’ll end up repeating what they’re saying, which is exactly what the devil wants you to do. He wants to trick you into talking like you’re getting old by age 30. Every time you forget something, he wants you to say things like, “Well, I always heard that the memory is the first thing to go. Ha! Ha! Ha!” That’s not funny! It opens the door for the devil to use the Kingdom process in reverse. When you say what he says, you license him to do the work and bring those negative words to pass. So don’t do it! If a disease has attacked your body and it’s telling you it’s going to take your life, don’t agree with it and repeat what it’s saying. Tell that disease to shut up! Then tune in to God because He is saying something entirely different. He’s saying, “By Jesus’ stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Not only has He said it in the Bible, He’s saying it directly to your spirit. He doesn’t have to speak to you from some far-off place in heaven, either. He’s talking to you right there on the inside of you because that’s where He lives, and if you’ll listen on the inside you will hear Him. God won’t condemn you with the curse, like the fevers and the storms of life do. God will speak THE BLESSING to you. He’ll talk to you about Galatians 3:13-14 that says, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ.” You, as a born-again child of God, have a blood-bought right to live a BLESSED life. But if you’re going to do it, you must hear and speak the words of THE BLESSING. You absolutely must incline your ear to God and take this attitude: “I know what the circumstances are saying; I know what my neighbors are saying; but the only thing that matters is what God is saying because what He says is the truth!” That’s the attitude I chose to take a number of years ago, when I was preaching on the island of Jamaica in the West Indies. I’d been ministering almost seven days a week for months, and after preaching one day from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., about halfway through my next meeting—which was also scheduled to last all day—my voice gave out.
