over sin and anything else the devil tries to put on you. He can empower you to live on the outside like who you are on the inside—to walk after the spirit and not after the flesh. You want to let Him do it, too, because as Romans 8:13 says, "If ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." Notice, according to that verse, the only way we can really live is by cooperating with the Holy Spirit in mortifying the deeds of the body. When we do that we enter in to God's high life. You can forget what the world says about living the high life! They have it all wrong. They equate it with sin and self-gratif ication. They've been duped by the devil into believing that holiness is a downer. But holiness is not a downer! For those of us who are born of God, living a holy life is living in heaven on earth. Holiness is an expression of our true spiritual identity and a part of our glorious destiny. It's something we can press in to with full confidence and great joy because, as Romans 8 says: "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For…the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (verses 16-18). "But Gloria," you might say, "I'm not sure I can handle the sufferings referred to in those verses. What kind of sufferings are they?" T h e y 'r e s i mpl y t h e s u f fe r i n g s we experience in our f lesh when we mortify the sinful deeds of the body. ey're the sufferings Jesus was talking about when He said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me" (Luke 9:23). is is the suffering we, as believers, are called to do. We're called to crucify our f lesh! Not to litera l ly die on a cross every day, but to lay aside sin and ungodly desires. To walk in the spirit and deny ourselves the luxury of indulging the disobedient inclinations of our natural bodies. e reason this involves suffering is because we live in a world that's going the other way. It's constantly yielding to the devil and magnifying sin. It's pushing people continually to gratify their lusts and live for their ow n pleasure. As believers, if we're going to walk in the spirit and live in holiness we have to swim upstream, so to speak. We have to consistently resist the downward pull that's all around us. At t imes, t hat can be ha rd. It can involve suffering. But so what? According to the Bible, the little dab of suffering we do to be obedient to God won't even compare to the glory that's going to be revealed in us as a result. It's Your Decision: Who Are You Going to Serve? I like what the Apostle Peter wrote about this in 1 Peter 4. He said: Can a man ever be satisfied with all this world can offer? No! In The Rally-LA, Antonio (Kenneth Copeland) discovers that love will cause a man to lay down everything for the most precious commodity in the world—his family. Also starring Eric Roberts, Rick Reyna and Sophia Adella Luke. Order today! THIS EVANGELICAL FILM IS FULL OF DRAMA, SUSPENSE AND ACTION – as it tells the story of the One who broke the curse for us all. Rated PG-13 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the f lesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the f lesh hath ceased from sin; that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the f lesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. Rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you (verses 1-2, 13-14). Look again at those last two verses. Do you see how they connect the glory of God with the suffering involved in bringing our flesh under subjection? All through the New Testament those two run together. This is just the way it is.
