The LORD used strategic times for prophets to speak His WORD, to keep The WORD alive and moving, to ensure The WORD became manifest at the exact moment and place He desired. He operated with His own rules regarding the power of words, and He used the prophets to declare those words in the earth. A prophet is a seer, seeing things in the spirit before we do. They “see out ahead” of the rest of us, by God’s divine appointment. Lynne Hammond once said, “Prophets are like eagles. They are able to see far out in the distance. There is an apparatus that comes down over their eyes that makes things clear. They can see farther than any being on earth. That is the way of the prophet. It is not a natural eye. It is an eye that God gives them to see things that are yet to come.” Weighty Words The prophetic word hasn’t passed away. In fact, we need it as much today as ever. God gave the gift of prophecy to us to edify us, to prosper us and to perfect us for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12). That’s why, after all these years, I still listen intently whenever a prophet speaks. I wait with anticipation to hear what Kenneth Copeland prophesies about each coming year. I wait to hear what Jerry Savelle and others have to say, too. Those prophetic voices speak into the world, unleashing God’s secrets. The WORD of God provides insight into the prophet’s ministry. Jeremiah wrote: "Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant" (Jeremiah 1:4-10). This passage reveals that words are the primary equipment of a prophet’s ministry. They are words that come down from heaven itself, into the heart of the prophet, and then are spoken out prophetically. It also shows the weight of a prophet’s words. God said Jeremiah had to go wherever he was sent and had to say whatever God commanded Him to say. Prophetic words are spoken with an unusual force and level of authority. They’re words that change realms, spheres, nations and kingdoms. Like an alarm clock, they wake everyone up. Often they even declare coming judgments in order to give people the opportunity to repent and receive deliverance. To some degree, each of us operates in prophecy. We are the prophets of our own lives. We prophesy and make declarations over our homes and our families. We make declarations over ourselves where healing and prosperity are concerned. On a personal level, as believers, we operate in authority over our realm and our sphere. By contrast, the prophetic office deals with massive areas of society. God told Jeremiah he was set over nations and kingdoms, “to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant” (verse 10). The Berlin Wall Time and again, we’ve seen living proof of how a prophet’s words carry great weight and effect great change. On June 4, 1989, The LORD spoke through Brother Copeland, declaring things that would root out, pull down, destroy, throw down, build and plant. Here’s just a portion of that prophecy: "Now this is what The LORD is saying. So hearken and heed to it. Take heed to it. Listen. For mighty waves of the supernatural are coming and soon to burst on the scene. Soon to crash like a mighty tidal wave and burst on the scene. Not just here and there, and a little here and a little over there, but as a mighty wave splashes and covers entire continents. And the power of God will rise in places that people didn’t even know that there was a God. But it will be there. And there will be things that will fall before the pressure of it. People will shake their head and say, 'I never would have believed that could happen.' There are going to be political walls and political fences that crumble right before men’s eyes. Mighty, mighty strongholds of political power and political strength in different political systems all over the world will suddenly change hands, crumble and fall; and men will say, 'I never would have thought that would happen, but I’m seeing it. I’m looking at it.' "The Berlin Wall will come down. It’s a sign. The Berlin Wall will come down. There will be other walls that will come down. There will be some walls that will go up. Many changes are going to take place. But those that are wise in their heart and listen to the Spirit of God will be quick to say, 'Oh, The LORD is at work in the land.' And they will be quick to pray. And they will be quick to rise up as a witness in the streets. And they will be quick to testify wherever they go, 'The LORD is working! The LORD is working! He’ll save you! He’ll heal you! He’ll deliver you! He’ll bring you into the place that you ought to be.'” * * * * article continues on p. 12 * * * * 10 : BVOV
