God actually does want to BLESS unbelievers, you know. He’s not hardhearted and insensitive toward them. He doesn’t want to punish them for their sins by letting them suffer pain and loss. Our heavenly Father loves everyone! He’s reconciled the whole world to Himself in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:19) and, even if people haven’t yet accepted that reconciliation, He wants to help them. He wants to do good things for them, not because they’ve earned it or deserve it, but because: He is a “God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.” (Psalm 86:15) He is “good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.” (Psalm 145:9) He’s “the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3) A Cup-Running-Over Revelation “But Brother Copeland,” you might say, “why is it necessary for us to live in the overflow for God to help unbelievers? Why doesn’t He just go around us and help them directly Himself?” Because we’re His representatives in the earth. We’re the ones He has authorized and equipped to do the work of His kingdom. We’re born of His Spirit and BLESSED “with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). We’re anointed with Jesus’ own Anointing to go about doing good, and healing all that are oppressed of the devil (Acts 10:38). When it comes to BLESSING the world, God doesn’t want to work around us. His desire is to work through us! His plan is for us to feed on His WORD until we become so anointing- and BLESSING-conscious that we continually say as David did in Psalm 23:5-6: “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” Talk about having some fun. When you develop a mercy-following, cup-running-over mentality, you wind up ministering out of the overflow all the time. You start spilling God’s goodness onto people and turning ordinary, everyday events into God adventures! I remember one time when Gloria and I were out riding motorcycles with some of our preaching buddies up in the mountains. We stopped at this place to eat, and from the moment we walked in, the waitress acted like she was mad we were there. Instead of giving us a friendly greeting, she threw our menus down on the table. And any time we asked her for something, she walked away grumbling about it. The LORD spoke to me about her, so we prayed and asked Him to do something for her. Then, the next time she came by our table, I called her over. “Come here, darling,” I said. “Something is going on with you. You’re hurting. We just finished praying for you and we want to know, how we can help you.” She sat down with us and just unloaded. We prayed for her and God moved on her. She was so BLESSED and excited about it, she started hugging all of us and followed us out the door, thanking us the whole way. ****** article continues on p. 9 ****** ********** ADVERTISEMENT ********** Word Explosion September 21-23 // Columbia, S.C.
