His Name Is Your Name Too The Name of Jesus is the Name that changes everything—and it belongs to you as His joint heir as surely as it belongs to Him! It’s yours because you’ve been born of the same heavenly Father, the “Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named” (Ephesians 3:14-15). It’s yours because when you entered into blood covenant with Jesus you were named after Him and the Father. You weren’t just given permission to use that Name once in a while to make the devil listen to you. God has given you that exalted Name. It is now your name! It’s like what happens in a marriage. When Gloria and I got married my name became hers. She became known as Gloria Copeland. She took the Copeland name and started using it without any qualms because she knew it belonged to her. It’s not just hers legally, it’s hers because, through the marriage covenant, we became one. By the same token, when you entered into the New Covenant by faith in Jesus you became “one spirit” with The LORD. You became part of His Body, “of his flesh, and of his bones.” The Bible even goes so far as to say that “as He is, so are we in this world” (See 1 Corinthians 6:17; Ephesians 5:30; 1 John 4:17.). This is the astounding reality of your union with Jesus. It gives you such absolute power of attorney to speak in His Name, that all of heaven will back what you say, as if Jesus was personally present saying the words Himself! Of course, you have to read and meditate on what The WORD says to take full advantage of that power of attorney, because it’s faith in the Name that does the work, and faith comes by hearing The WORD. It doesn’t come any other way. It doesn’t even come from seeing miracles happen in Jesus’ Name. Look back at Acts 3 and the healing of the lame man and you’ll see what I mean. The people who witnessed that miracle weren’t instantly filled with faith. No, initially they were just “filled with wonder and amazement” (verse 10). Then Peter began to preach the gospel to them. He told them that Jesus is “the Prince of life” (verse 15) and that God had raised Him up and sent Him to BLESS them and turn them away from their iniquities (verse 26). While Peter was preaching, faith came to those people! Instead of just being amazed, “many of them which heard the word believed” (Acts 4:4). The same will happen to you where the Name of Jesus is concerned. As you attend to what The WORD says about it, faith will come. Not only will you grow in your faith and understanding of the power in Jesus’ Name, it will grow in you that His Name really is yours! Protection, Provision and Deliverance To see a picture of what it’s like to truly walk in this revelation, read Psalm 91. It describes a life marked by continuous supernatural protection where you’re delivered from pestilence, dangers and snares of every kind. It talks about angels surrounding you at all times to aid and defend you, and a life so victorious you can trample the devil under your feet. It almost sounds too good to be true, but that’s the life that’s been provided for the born-again child of God! It’s the power that’s been made available in Jesus’ Name to the Christian. As God put it in Psalm 91:14-16: “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.” I know from experience what can happen when God shows off His salvation. I saw it the first time I preached on the authority of Jesus’ Name. Talk about a meeting I’ll never forget! I was ministering in Jamaica, up in the mountains in a little village called New Hope. It was a pitch-black night, and the service was being held under a brush arbor made out of poles and chicken wire with banana leaves piled on top. Because the only light in the place shone from a single kerosene lantern that only illuminated about a 3-foot circle around the podium (which consisted of two boards hammered together and nailed to a stump) I couldn’t see much of the congregation. I couldn’t tell how many people were there or how they were responding to what I was preaching about the power of Jesus’ Name. So I was surprised when all of a sudden a man stepped out of the darkness and said, “Lay your hands on me in that Name!” I did, and a split second later another person stepped up…then another…and another. By the time I got finished, I’d ministered to several hundred people simply by laying hands on them and saying, “In the Name of Jesus!” After the service was over, as I was getting into the car to leave with the pastor, a little woman walked up and said to me very matter-of-factly, “Brother Copeland, thank you very much. I was blind. Now I see. Praise God.” Then she turned around and left. Her demeanor was so unemotional I thought she was speaking metaphorically, so I asked the pastor if maybe she meant her spiritual eyes had been opened to new revelations. “Oh, no,” he said, “she was completely blind and she received her sight tonight!” What caused that miracle to happen? The same power that caused the lame man to walk in Acts 3: The power of the Name of Jesus. The Name that changes everything!
