They had assured her that her sin had been paid for by Jesus on Calvary. They assured her that her sin was no worse than theirs, but like all sin, hers also required repentance. No one acted haughty or holier than her. They were transparent, sharing the things they had struggled with in their own lives and how they had overcome them. “They didn’t minimize my sin or preach a watered-down gospel,” Janet explains. “It doesn’t matter if you’re helping someone deal with alcoholism, drug addictions, adultery, broken marriages or pornography, it requires the Word of God which is sharper than a two-edged sword, wielded with love. “Like those other sins, when it comes to the gay lifestyle, you can’t just deal with the behavior, you need to find the root cause. Like me, 85 percent of women in the gay lifestyle have been raped and abused by men. That’s usually the real issue that has never been dealt with. The people at Maple Grove Assemblies of God were patient and loving. After a couple of years, I didn’t even want to go back to that life.” Growing in God Eventually, the Lord led Janet to attend Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park, Minn., where Mac and Lynne Hammond are the pastors. “My pastor at Maple Grove blessed me and sent me on my way, but it was hard to leave. The faith message had taught me how powerful the Word of God is. The uncompromised Word of God kept me grounded. The gay lifestyle is about identity confusion as much as anything else, and through that uncompromised teaching, I found my true identity in God. I’ve continued to surround myself with strong men and women of God to whom I make myself accountable.” Eight years after leaving the lesbian life, Janet started her own ministry, Janet Boynes Ministries, with a focus on helping people who want out of the gay lifestyle. In 2009, she was ordained by Mac Hammond. In 2012, when Michele Bachmann became a candidate for the Republican nomination in the U.S. presidential primary, Lynne Hammond started a prayer line for Bachmann. She asked Janet and Pastor Terri Pearsons of Eagle Mountain International Church in Fort Worth, to help. “Whenever Michele had a prayer need, we got on the phone to pray, which is how I became friends with Terri. Then, in 2013, when the Lord told me to move to Texas, I went to Pastors George and Terri Pearsons and began attending EMIC.” A Voice of Wisdom It’s been 18 years now since Janet Boynes abandoned the lesbian lifestyle and fell into the arms of a loving church family. In 2011, she was featured on the cover of "Charisma" magazine. Since then, she has been interviewed on the "700 Club," "Life Today" with James Robison and by Joni Lamb. She spent a week with Andrew Wommack, speaking at his ministers’ conference. Janet’s is a voice of wisdom and reason amid all the discord generated over the issue of gay rights. She has written two books, "Called Out: A Former Lesbian Discovers Freedom" and "God and Sexuality: Truth and Relevance Without Compromise," to help Christians and churches navigate through these issues. “This lifestyle has crept into our churches,” Janet says, “and many parents with great faith for other things, have no faith that God can deliver their children from a gay lifestyle. Don’t fall into doubt and unbelief! Nothing is too hard for God! There are many people caught up in this lifestyle who want to get out, but the devil has convinced them that nobody wants them—especially the Church. Many slip into churches hoping to hear answers only to find the subject isn’t mentioned. This subject can no longer be the elephant in the room that no one discusses. We must educate ourselves and be prepared to love and minister truth to them. More than anything, we’ve got to love them enough to never compromise the gospel. God is still in the business of setting the captives free.” V Editor’s Note: For more information, go to janetboynesministries.com ************************************************************************************ ********** ADVERTISEMENT ********** MAY Broadcast Calendar with Kenneth Copeland Gloria Copeland Kellie Copeland George Pearsons May 1-5: God’s Plan for Your Healing and Long Life Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Sun., May 7: It All Begins With Jesus Kenneth Copeland May 8-12: Faith Activates the Anointing Kenneth Copeland Sun., May 14: The Power of Hope Kellie Copeland May 15-19: Promotion God’s Way Gloria Copeland and George Pearsons Sun., May 21: What Is a Word of Knowledge?
