No Fear Here Dozens of times each day Jennifer declared, “Perfect pregnancy. Perfect delivery. Perfect baby.” She understood that those were the words with which they were to war. While she spoke words of faith all day, sometimes she awoke at night in a cold sweat. Whenever that happened, she would open her Bible to the verses that she and David had chosen for their stand. She paraphrased Psalm 112:7 saying, “I will not be afraid of evil tidings. My heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” Other times, she meditated on Psalm 112:2. Paraphrasing it she said, “My seed shall be mighty upon the earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed.” Physically and emotionally fatigued, David and Jennifer took a two-week vacation. Spending quality time together, they rested and meditated on God’s Word. Together, they quoted Acts 20:24: “None of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God” ("New King James Version"). They confessed Romans 4:20-21, declaring, “We will not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but will be strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He promised He is able to perform.” Back from vacation, Jennifer and David went to see the specialist. Studying the sonogram, the doctor looked surprised. “Oh! He’s only one week behind now!” “Help me understand,” Jennifer said. “Does that mean he grew as much in two weeks as he should have in three? He almost doubled his expected weight gain?” “That’s right,” the doctor said. “I don’t need to see you for four weeks.” Pure Perfection A month later, when Jennifer and David returned, the specialist they had been seeing was off duty. A different doctor performed the sonogram, asking Jennifer to summarize the problems. Jennifer explained the situation and ended by saying that the baby was now only one week behind in size. “No, your baby is perfect!” the doctor declared. “He’s not behind at all. I’m referring you back to your regular doctor. You don’t need to see a specialist any longer.” On July 28, 2014, Austin Adams was born by C-section weighing in at 8 pounds, 3 ounces. “He’s bigger than we thought!” the doctor said. “He’s perfect!” Jennifer wrapped her arms around her son, kissing his fuzzy head. A few minutes later, without warning, she started shaking and felt so weak she couldn’t hold him any longer. About that time the nurse noticed that Austin’s breathing was a little off. She took him to the nursery and David followed. In recovery, the nurses noticed that Jennifer’s uterus wasn’t contracting strong enough to stop the bleeding. They gave her powerful intravenous and oral drugs to increase contractions. Instead of an hour, it took three hours to stabilize her. Finally moved into a regular room, Jennifer still didn’t feel quite right. Something felt off as the nurse massaged her uterus. Just then a river of blood flooded the bed. As Jennifer lost consciousness, she hemorrhaged half the blood in her body as doctors fought to save her. 24 : BVOV
