The Gift That Keeps On Giving

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Jesus said these words, so you know they’re right.
Some, though, have heard this and taken it to mean that we shouldn’t receive anything, but that’s plain crazy.
Jesus just wanted you to know that, as great a blessing as it is to receive something, it’s an even bigger blessing to give something. I think it’s safe to say that Jesus said this out of His own personal experience. He knows firsthand the blessing that it is to give. Has anyone ever given more than He has? Never. But Jesus has a unique place in our lives. Not only is He the One who gives, He is also the gift itself.
Gifts come in every shape and size, and they range in price from very little to, “You really shouldn’t have spent this much!” We all have been given gifts that made us think, It was definitely more blessed to give than it was for me to receive this thing. Those are usually the ones that, upon opening, cause us to say, “Oh, thank you. What is it?”
On the other hand, you know what it’s like to get something truly great. It could’ve been something you wanted, something you needed or something that just made you smile. But the best gifts are the ones that you find yourself using and enjoying long past Christmas. They’re the ones you’ve hung on to for years, because you’re using and enjoying them as much today as the day you got them. The very best gifts are the ones that keep on giving. It’s almost as though the people who gave them to you were able to look into your future, see that you would need and enjoy these things for years and years, and become your personal heroes by blessing you with what you’d one day call “the best gifts ever!”
