The devil will always try to convince us those verses are talking about some other generation of believers besides us—about the apostles in Acts, or a future group of supersaints. He’ll always try to make people uncomfortable when someone starts claiming we can believe to do the works of Jesus right now. But, of course, he did the same thing 2,000 years ago with people in Jesus’ hometown. He stirred them up like a bunch of hornets when Jesus stood up in front of them in the synagogue and read from Isaiah 61: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4:18). Everyone in the synagogue that day would have been fine with those words if Jesus had said they would come to pass someday, at another time, in another place. But He didn’t. Instead, He announced, “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears” (verse 21). The people in Nazareth didn’t like that at all! It offended them. “Keep that kind of thing in the past,” they said. “Let it happen in the future. But let’s not have any such stuff in our day.” In the not-too-distant past, such an attitude was common even among born-again believers when the subject of miracles, signs and wonders came up. But these days that’s changing. More and more of us know the Word and we believe God is watching over it to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12)—not someday, but right now. Personally, I’m ready for it! When it comes to expecting God’s glory to be manifested in the Church, I’m a right-now believer, aren’t you? The Beginning Is the Best Place to Start “Well, I’m trying to be,” you might say. “It’s just hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that walking in God’s glory is actually His will for me.” Then don’t just take my word for it. Spend some time reading and meditating on what God’s Word says about it. His Word is His wisdom, and according to 1 Corinthians 2:7, "New King James Version," it’s been “ordained before the ages for our glory.” So the more fully you grasp it, the more you see in the Bible the magnificently wise plan God has designed for us as His children, the more faith you’ll have for His glory to be manifest in your life. Don’t just try to figure things out on your own, though. This isn’t the kind of wisdom you can get with your natural eyes and ears. It’s not wisdom that comes from the world. It has to come from God Himself. “As it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” (verses 9-10). So as you read the Word, ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate your heart. Then trust Him to show you what God’s plan for you truly is. “But the Bible is a big book, Gloria! Where should I start?” I’ve found it’s best to start with the beginning. Since God never changes, His will never changes. Therefore, the plan He had when He first created mankind is still His plan for us as His people today. Genesis 1:26-27 tells what that plan was. After God created earth and prepared the Garden of Eden, He said: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” If you study the meaning of the original Hebrew words in those verses you’ll find that when God created Adam in His image, He made him as much like Himself as it was possible for him to be. He put His eternal, zoe life within him (which means Adam had the same power in his spirit that God had) and put His own glory upon him. (That’s why it wasn’t until after Adam sinned that he realized he wasn’t wearing any clothes. His body was covered in the very radiance of the Almighty. He was dressed in a robe of light.) *****ADVERTISEMENT***** Receive Your Inheritance in Christ! Did you know you are heir to a vast fortune?
