Faith for a Miracle “After Don suffered that massive heatstroke in August 1983, he was in the hospital for three months,” Mary remembers. “During that time, his kidneys gradually recovered and his memory returned, although there were still gaps. But the condition of his legs didn’t change. They remained 3- to 4-inches smaller than they’d been before the stroke and he couldn’t walk. “Fortunately we knew better than to be moved by that. I’d attended Rhema Bible Training Center and learned about faith from Kenneth E. Hagin. He often brought in Kenneth Copeland as a guest speaker and Don and I were students of his teachings. So we knew better than to let his condition move us from our stand of faith. We focused on what God said.” While being discharged from the hospital after three months was a huge milestone, it was a bittersweet victory. Don used his arms to drag himself up two flights of stairs to their second-floor apartment while Mary carried his wheelchair. His legs flaccid, his body drenched in sweat from the exertion, Don pulled himself up each laborious step. All the while, the devil taunted him, laughing and mocking. “Did God really say you’d walk again?” Three weeks later, Don was home alone when God spoke six words that would make—or break—his faith. 'Get out of bed and walk.' Don looked down at his wasted legs. Then he took his eyes off the problem and lifted them to God. A little while later, Mary returned home and found Don…standing. Don walked back into City of Faith and asked to see the same doctors and nurses who’d read his biopsy report. They watched Don walk and examined the muscles in his legs. To everyone’s astonishment, his legs hadn’t returned to their pre-stroke size. They were a full inch larger than before the heatstroke. “This is a creative miracle!” Don not only graduated from ORU Medical School on schedule with his class—he walked. A Different Kind of Healing “In the early ’90s I woke one morning with a severe rash,” Don recalls. “I put cream on it but it worsened. I went to see a dermatologist who told me I had the heartbreak of psoriasis. He prescribed coal tar and aquaphor ointment which left me smelling like asphalt. It stained my sheets, clothes and car seats. “It was an angry red rash and it itched. When I’d walk into a room my patients would ask, ‘What’s that smell?’ Finally, I’d had enough. If God could heal me from heatstroke, He could deal with psoriasis. However, this healing came in a very different way.” Don’s first clue that the rash was related to food was when he fasted and began to see a drastic improvement. “I also noticed that when I ate bacon, fried foods and steak, the rash was much worse the next day. I usually ate toast for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch and pasta and a roll for dinner. As it turned out, those foods were fueling the problem. I was very sensitive to gluten. When I cut it from my diet, the rash began to clear up. “I craved any kind of peppers: bell peppers, jalapeños and cayenne, but realized that my body was very sensitive to them. That’s when the Lord gave me a huge revelation: The very foods we crave are usually the ones fueling our disease.” Although Don was only in his 30s, he had other health issues as well. He had taken antibiotics for a sinus infection, and had an overgrowth of candida. Don had also had a parasite problem that might have come from the year he lived in Mexico as an exchange student. He treated the parasites, removed gluten, steak, fried foods and peppers from his diet and healed rapidly. The rash was gone. Don said he began using what he had learned to treat his patients, especially those with chronic diseases. “I used diet and helped them decrease stress and get more sleep,” he said. “The results were amazing. Most people experienced a 90- to 95-percent improvement in their health by following an anti-inflammatory diet.” Getting to the Root of the Problem Early in his career, Don said, he realized that medication treated symptoms but never led to a cure. In fact, many of them created so many side effects that more medication was required to treat them. As he sought God regarding various diseases, the Lord gave him revolutionary ways to cure diseases. ***article continues on next page *** ************************************** OCTOBER READ THROUGH THE BIBLE Old Testament/Psalms Thu 1 Isa. 49-51 / Ps. 52-53 Fri 2 Isa. 52-53 / Ps. 54 Sat 3 Isa. 54-55 / Ps. 55 Sun 4 Isa. 56-57 / Ps. 56 Mon 5 Isa. 58-59 / Ps. 57 Tue 6 Isa. 60-61 / Ps. 58 Wed 7 Isa. 62-63 / Ps. 59 Thu 8 Isa. 64-66 / Ps. 60-61 Fri 9 Jer. 1-2 / Ps. 62 Sat 10 Jer. 3-4 / Ps. 63 Sun 11 Jer. 5-6 / Ps. 64 Mon 12 Jer. 7-8 / Ps. 65 Tue 13 Jer. 9-10 / Ps. 66 Wed 14 Jer. 11-12 / Ps. 67 Thu 15 Jer. 13-15 / Ps. 68-69 Fri 16 Jer. 16-17 / Ps. 70 Sat 17 Jer. 18-19 / Ps. 71 Sun 18 Jer. 20-21 / Ps. 72 Mon 19 Jer. 22-23 / Ps. 73 Tue 20 Jer. 24-25 / Ps. 74 Wed 21 Jer. 26-27 / Ps. 75 Thu 22 Jer. 28-30 / Ps. 76-77 Fri 23 Jer. 31-32 / Ps. 78 Sat 24 Jer. 33-34 / Ps. 79 Sun 25 Jer. 35-36 / Ps. 80 Mon 26 Jer. 37-38 / Ps. 81 Tue 27 Jer. 39-40 / Ps. 82 Wed 28 Jer. 41-42 / Ps. 83 Thu 29 Jer. 43-45 / Ps. 84-85 Fri 30 Jer. 46-47 / Ps. 86 Sat 31 Jer. 48-49 / Ps. 87 “Read Through the Bible in a Year Plan” written by Marilyn Hickey, and used by permission. 12 : BVOV
