After the birth of their first grandchild in Missouri in 1998, Peg said, “If we’re going to move again, I want to be close to my grandchild.”
“That’s a great idea!” Mike agreed.
They moved to Missouri where their oldest son, Erik, was a doctor of internal medicine. Peg got a teaching job and they enjoyed being around their growing family.
Five years later, in 2003, Mike and Peg’s marriage hit a rocky place. Now retired, Mike was still a strong Type A personality. But now Peg was the only one around for him to boss. Tired and frustrated, she wanted out.
'I don’t want you to get a divorce,' the Lord said.
“Then You fix him, because I can’t!”
The Lord gave Peg Ephesians 2:14, “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.”
“While I stood on that scripture,” Peg recalls, “Mike left town for 10 days. When he returned he was a changed man. That hard edge was gone. He was kind and easier to get along with. God had fixed the problem in just 10 days! We reconciled, then went on a cruise!”
While Mike had always been a good husband, father and wonderful provider, what Peg had now was a marriage that seemed like heaven on earth. After 38 years of marriage, they were more in love than they’d ever been.
Over the years, Mike had enjoyed a hobby as an investment broker and had become quite good at it. The Lord gifted him with unusual financial wisdom, and Mike and Peg had both worked hard and saved $300,000 toward their retirement.
