They spent all afternoon laughing, reminiscing and crying. One of the nurses pulled Peg aside. “Mrs. Miller, I’m very confused. Your husband’s vital signs are good. He’s laughing and talking. Yet, there’s an order not to resuscitate?”
“That’s right,” Peg explained. “This isn’t physical; it’s spiritual. Mike has led a long and fruitful life and God is going to take him home. Let me explain what’s going to happen. He’ll be fine one minute and then in the next breath he’ll go home. He won’t be sick or in pain. He’ll simply step over into glory.”
At nine minutes after midnight, Jan. 13, 2012, the nurses watching his telemetry saw Mike’s heart rate drop to 30. They ran to his room, but Mike Miller was home—more alive than he’d ever been on earth.
“We had 46½ wonderful years together,” Peg recalls, “but the last eight were above and beyond anything I might have dreamed. Mike lived well and he finished well. Before he left, he multiplied our income and built me my dream home.
“Recently, I was sitting in the backyard looking out over the water and I remembered the day God gave me Psalm 2:8, ‘Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.’ I finally understood that because of my partnership with KCM, I’d been grandfathered into their ministry. Through them I’d gone to the uttermost parts of the earth and I’d been given the nations as my inheritance.”
These days Peg Miller loves hearing the laughter of her children and grandchildren as they fill the house. She hosts Bible studies and church groups. It is the place where God has restored her soul, preparing her for the next chapter of her life. The blessing of the Lord has been so bountiful there isn’t room—even in her Seed Catalog—to record it all. V
