The Seed Catalog
by Melanie Hemry
The Virginia winter whipped in on a frigid wind Dec. 12, 1995, but inside, the house felt toasty as Peg Miller put the finishing touches on some gifts. The lights from the Christmas tree cast a warm glow across the room that evening as she and her husband, Mike, settled in for the evening. Peg glanced at her husband, still surprised they’d already been married for 30 years and raised three wonderful sons.
They had both grown up in a small town south of Pittsburgh before going off to college. Peg had earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and French and a minor in Spanish. She still enjoyed going to work each morning to teach bright young minds. Mike had a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in chemistry. By the age of 29, he had been the superintendent of an oxygen plant and worked with cryogenics.
Although neither had been born again when they married, Peg had received the Lord in 1972 at a Billy Graham crusade. A few years later, Mike had made a profession of faith. In the early 1980s, Peg had discovered Kenneth Copeland Ministries and had become a Partner. Learning to live by faith had been a process of trial and error. She made mistakes, learned from them and continued to grow in the Lord.
While Mike dozed in his chair, Peg pulled out the notebook she’d labeled Seed Catalog. The edges were tattered from use but she didn’t mind. Unlike the catalogs farmers ordered seed from, hers was different. She’d started it when she first learned about seedtime and harvest from the Bible.
