She had spent years ignoring such comments. But, in the midst of feeling so defeated, she began to think maybe she’d been wrong. Maybe it was time to face facts. Even the independent projects she had invested in hadn’t garnered the response she had hoped for. For as long as she could remember, Dara’s parents, Dan and Judi, had encouraged her to work hard by the grace of God, and never doubt the work He was doing in her heart. They urged her to get into God’s presence and see where He was directing her: “You were born for a specific purpose and with a God-given destiny. Our job is to reveal the Father’s love for you and trust that He’ll lead you into the dreams He has placed in your heart.” Dara had been 7 years old when she’d burst into her father’s office and announced that she’d just written a song. She had warbled about the walls of Jericho falling down, and from that moment, she’d never stopped writing songs. “The Lord gave me a vision!” she’d told her parents. “I saw myself singing in Africa—surrounded by the most beautiful people!” Her parents hadn’t once been condescending. “That’s right,” they had agreed. “God is showing you your future. We serve the God of the impossible. The more impossible it looks—the better!” In her heart, Dara knew what her parents said was true.
