VOL. 52 : N o 8 : IN PRINT SINCE '73 INSIDE AUGUST Editor's Letter As Soon As Possible! "We need it ASAP!" How many times have we heard those words in connection with work, or some other "hurried" situation? For many of us, at some point our world has been suddenly interrupted, a number of times, by the busyness of life and begs the command: "We need this ASAP— As Soon As Possible." Suddenly, some newtask has been added to our already overloaded plate. But this time the job is "hot"! It's needed right away, or ASAP, and the pressure is on us to deliver. First Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to "pray without ceasing," or as The Passion Translation puts it, "Make your life a prayer." So, here's a thought: Instead of allowing this way-too-familiar acronym to cause you stress, and rush to get the task done, consider recasting it to mean something different, then allow it to lead you into God's presence, where you can "find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16). Say to yourself: "There is work to be done, a deadline to meet, and I have no spare time. But as I work to get the job done, I will— Always Say A Prayer." Then, take it a step further and apply it to every situation in your life. In the midst of family crisis, when quality time is rare, do your best and let God do the rest, and Always Say A Prayer. It may seem like your troubles are more than you can bear. Slow down, take a deep breath, and Always Say A Prayer. God knows how stressful life is, and He wants to ease your cares. He'll respond to all your needs, but He's looking for you to seek His help. Always Say A Prayer! Who says everything needs to be done "as soon as possible"? Life itself is a challenge, but God has given it to us to enjoy. The challenges that come with day-to-day life are much easier to bear when we approach each of them by saying a prayer. Take time to pray about each situation, then let God show you the best way to handle them. Speaking of prayer, I encourage you to read the article by Terri Copeland Pearsons in this month's issue (Page 10), titled "Keep Coming to Jesus." It's an excerpt from her new book, An Encounter With Him, which shares how you can gain closer, more personal fellowship with God through prayer. Ronald C.
