God’s thoughts and ways work! The more we listen to them and live accordingly, the more heavenly our lives become. The more we leave behind the low life of the world with all its turmoil, strife, fear, doubt, sickness and lack, the more we enjoy a prosperous, healthy God kind of life filled with righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. Word Seed in Good Soil Produces a Harvest To be clear, I’m not talking here about just reading the Bible. While Bible reading is vital, for the Word to produce results in your life, you must get it down into your heart where it can work in you. You must make sure that when you hear the Word you don’t make the same mistakes the first three groups of people Jesus taught about in Mark 4 did. Remember them? They all had the seed of the Word sown into their lives, but the first group had hearts like hardened ground. The Word couldn’t get into them because they didn’t understand it. So the devil was able to come immediately and steal it from them. The second group had hearts like stony ground. They received the Word with joy, but they didn’t hold onto it long enough for it to take root in them. A soon as trouble or persecution arose on account of the Word, they got offended, stumbled and fell away. They were like some people we see who get turned on to the Word at a Believers’ Convention. They go home and put it into motion, then six weeks later if everything in their life hasn’t changed, they get offended at God and say things like, “He doesn’t care anything about me.” Or “I’ve been believing for my healing for six weeks and it hasn’t manifested yet.” Don’t ever take that attitude. Even if you don’t see results as fast as you want, stick with the Word. Keep listening to it and meditating on it. Give it time to take root in you. Don’t let the devil come in and dig up the Word you’ve planted in your heart. When he shows up with his little shovel of unbelief, cast him out! Wave your Bible in his face and say, “I’m living God’s way! I don’t care what happens. I’m living to please Him, and faith pleases Him. So, I’m going to stay in faith!” The third group Jesus talked about in Mark 4 had hearts like thorny ground. The seed of the Word got into them but then got choked out because their hearts were overcrowded. Too many other things held their allegiance. They had their priorities all messed up. They didn’t put God and His Word first, so it didn’t bear fruit in their lives. You don’t want to be like any of those groups of people! You want to join the fourth group Jesus talked about. He said, “These are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred” (Mark 4:20). According to Luke 8:15, this group of people bore fruit “with perseverance” ("New American Standard Bible"). Perseverance is key. You must persevere in the Word to walk in the God kind of life. Everything He’s promised is not going to come to pass in a day. Ken and I can testify to it from personal experience. While things did start getting better for us as soon as we began hearing and doing God’s Word, it took 11 months for the mountain of debt we’d accumulated to be totally removed from our lives. Other things we believed for took longer. But over the years we’ve learned that if we will continue to hear and do what God says, all His blessings will come upon and overtake us and everything He’s promised us shall come to pass. For as Jesus said: “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come” (Mark 4:26-29, "New King James Version"). You want to receive a harvest of blessing in your life? Keep planting the seed of the Word in your heart. Keep hearing and doing it and refuse to let the devil take it away from you. Keep following God’s victory plan and—it’s inevitable, fixed, predetermined, guaranteed—your harvest of blessing shall come! V Points to Get You There: 1) God operates by promise; He tells you what to do, what will happen if you obey Him, and what will happen if you don’t, then He lets you choose. (Deut. 30:19) 2) Even under the Old Covenant, God’s people could be protected from the curse, prosper physically and materially, and be victorious over their enemies by hearing and obeying God’s Word. (Deut. 28:1-2) 3) As a New Covenant believer in Christ, you’ve been redeemed from the curse and inherited THE BLESSING. How much of that BLESSING you experience still depends on you. (John 8:31-32) 4) Obeying God isn’t legalistic, it’s smart because His ways work. (Isa. 55:8-9) 5) God’s Word planted in the heart and acted upon consistently will inevitably produce a harvest.
