For months, they traveled together with Daniel preaching one night, and Reinhard preaching four. Then they analyzed the results—looking at the number of salvations and miracles. The results were stunning. When Daniel preached, there was no dip. He got the same number of salvations. The same number of dramatic miracles. Sometimes, his numbers were higher. God was moving. The Holy Spirit was blessing. “OK,” Reinhard said, “you preach two meetings and I’ll preach three.” They did that for a while. “Now you do three meetings and I’ll do two.” “Now you do four, and I’ll do one.” Left Alone A hot African wind blew over the banners announcing Reinhard Bonnke. Daniel’s heart thundered like a herd of stampeding elephants as he followed Reinhard to his car, trying to wrap his mind around what he had just said. “I mean it,” Reinhard repeated, “I’m leaving.” It was midday in the middle of a crusade. “Reinhard, you can’t leave! This is your crusade! People need to see you!” Daniel begged until a cloud of dust was all he saw of Reinhard’s vehicle. How could this be? “I felt so alone,” Daniel remembers. “Somehow, we made it through that crusade. Then in 2007, he just stopped showing up. We were all so scared. The way our crusades worked in Africa was that if God was moving, the crowds grew. When a guy who’d been born blind went home with his sight, everyone in the village would come the next morning. So if the crowds were growing, you knew God was moving. If the crowds didn’t grow, you knew something was wrong. “We started that crusade with 30,000 people. By the end, the crowd had grown to 750,000, which meant that God was blessing it.” In 2008, Reinhard officially turned the ministry over to Daniel as his successor. Daniel was only 28. Over the next 10 years Reinhard and Daniel ministered together all over the world and Reinhard helped establish Daniel as the new leader of the ministry. By the time Reinhard went home to be with the Lord at the end of 2019, the transition had been complete. “When Reinhard died, it was like losing my father and best friend at the same time,” said Daniel. Multiplication “I think what Reinhard did was one of the great examples of a transition from one generation to another. He had the foresight to look ahead of his own lifetime. In fact, he handed his ministry to me when it was at its peak, which is unusual. I think that’s one of the reasons it was such a successful transition. It was done well because Reinhard was so humble. “That doesn’t mean it was easy for him. I don’t think it was. When he turned things over to me, he still had the same passion in him to preach and win souls.” In 2017, the Lord said, 'This coming decade will be the decade of the double harvest.' Daniel did the calculations. “We had 75 million documented decisions for Christ in 30 years,” he explains. “A double harvest would mean we would see 150 million by the end of the decade. I was around for most of those 75 million and know how hard we worked for that. It took Reinhard almost 20 years to see the first million souls won. During the years that I was with him, we pushed with every ounce of energy we had. We worked around the clock, traveled constantly and spent every penny we had. I thought, Lord, how are we going to double this in 10 years? “The Lord said, 'It will happen through multiplication, not through addition. Your job is to multiply.' I believe he called me to this ministry because I have a heart to multiply. During the travel ban caused by the pandemic, we’ve been training a group of student evangelists. As soon as we can travel, we’ll launch them in Africa.” Daniel Kolenda is a tireless minister of the gospel, living up to his family legacy. Far before he proved himself, Reinhard Bonnke saw what was in him. He appointed the anointed.
