Oh my, the wonderful things we’ve seen happen in those services over the years! Outstanding miracles have taken place. Often, while I was still teaching, before people even had hands laid on them, faith would explode in people’s hearts and they would be healed, just sitting in their seats. I remember one little boy, in particular. During the testimony part of the service his mother brought him to the front, and the first thing I noticed about him was that he kept sniffing. When his mother began to share his story, I understood why—he’d been born with no nostrils! The doctors had said that when he got to be 12, and his bones were fully formed, they would operate on him and try to fix the condition. But that day the Word of God was made life and health to his flesh. He received brand-new nostrils and went home with a perfectly normal nose. In another service, there was a little girl who came in with buck teeth and Jesus the Healer straightened them out. Although I don’t remember the details, I found in the notes I made later that another person in the same meeting also got their teeth fixed. Glory to God! The power of the Lord is always present when His Word is being received. He’s always there to work miracles for people. Whether we’re at home by ourselves reading our Bible, at church, or at a Believers’ Convention, God is always ready to heal us because He wants His people well! A Good, Good Father Why does He want us well? Because He’s a good God! He’s “gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works" (Psalm 145:8-9). Notice that verse doesn’t just say God has compassion; it says He’s full of compassion. It doesn’t say He’s just merciful to a few folks in a few situations here and there. It says His tender mercies are over all His works. Does that include us, as believers? Certainly! Ephesians 2:10 says, “We are his workmanship.” What’s more, He’s our heavenly Father. As earthly parents, when our children get sick, don’t we want them well? Wouldn’t most of us rather take a sickness ourselves than see our children suffer? Yes! And the reason we’re that way is because our instincts as parents were instilled in us by God. The tender mercy we have for our children is just a vague reflection of the love He has for us! Romans 5:8 says, “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” He loved us even when we weren’t His children. How much more does He love us and want us well now that we’re born of Him? “But Gloria,” someone might say, “Doesn’t God sometimes put sickness on us for our own good? When we sin, or there’s something we need to learn, doesn’t He make us sick to teach us a lesson?” No! If He did, everyone in the Body of Christ would be sick. We all sin sometimes. We all have lessons to learn. But God didn’t send sickness to be our teacher. He sent His Word and His Holy Spirit to be the Teacher of the Church. We are more likely to get sick if we get out of the will of God, but He is not the author of that sickness. That’s the devil’s work. God is always good! 6 : BVOV
