One day he looked outside and the sky was filled with B-24s and B-17s. The prisoners were shouting with joy to realize they would be rescued, but then it dawned on them that they might get killed in the crossfire. Our friend dove under a bed along with two other fellows—one Jewish, the other Catholic. During the time he was a POW, he diligently confessed Psalm 91, and that’s what started coming out of his mouth: “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust…. A thousand shall fall at my side, and ten thousand at my right hand, but it will not come nigh me!” The Jewish boy jumped right in, then the Catholic boy said, “God, I don’t know it all by heart, but amen, amen, amen!” The prison camp was leveled. The hospital was leveled. There was nothing left but about $4 worth of rubble—and one little bed and three fellows under it who were trusting God. That is what Psalm 91 will do in combat! Follow the Star You may not often hear about it, but we still have military officers who put their trust in God and look to Him for help. A good friend of mine is a retired Army general who told me about an incident that occurred when he was in Southeast Asia a number of years ago. A number of his men were trapped behind enemy lines. The patrol leader radioed and said, “Captain, I’m in trouble. I can’t tell you where I am because they’re monitoring the radio. We’re surrounded, so any direction I try to come in, they’re going to wipe us out.” The general, who was a young captain at the time responded, “Don’t move and don’t make any noise. I’ll get right back to you.” Now, this Holy Ghost-filled leader walked outside. It was a bright, cold winter night. He looked into the heavens full of stars and said, “Oh Lord, help me. Give me wisdom.” And he just started praying in tongues. Then he said, “I pray also that I interpret what I’m praying in the spirit.” He ran back inside and picked up the microphone: “Lieutenant, are you a Christian?” “That’s an affirmative, sir.” “Do you know what direction the star came from?” “You mean the Bethlehem star, sir?” “That’s the one.” “Affirmative, sir.” “You take that direction. We’ll lay out a horseshoe of fire around you except in that direction,” talking about the east, and he said, “You come out in the direction of the star.” (Of course, the people listening on the enemy side had no idea what they were talking about.) “Yes sir, Captain. I’ll be home in a few minutes.” They laid down that field of fire and the whole patrol walked out untouched. That’s the way God makes generals. This man became a general in the U.S. Army, and he was well aware of what got him there. He said, “It was from walking continually in the wisdom of God instead of my own wisdom.” Another friend of mine led an outfit in Vietnam. The group before them was hit hard. So when he took his men in there he told them, “Now boys, all of you know that Jesus of Nazareth is my Lord and Savior. I’m not telling you that you have to make Him your Lord, but there is one thing you have to do to stay in this outfit. You have to memorize the 91st Psalm.” And he checked to make sure they were on the spot every morning—verse 3, verse 4, verse 5. His outfit was on the line longer than any other of its kind—with zero casualties. Zero. The men in his outfit learned to rely on Psalm 91 and whenever anything happened, somebody would yell, “91st Psalm, verse 5!” Everyone in the outfit would holler it just as loud as they could. I’m telling you, God’s WORD was on the line! God Is My Refuge The men and women who defend this country are just as important as any of its leaders. Gloria and I have been honored to minister to them in person and through teachings about the divine protection that’s available to them as described in Psalm 91. As our leaders and troops continue to look to God for their help and trust in His deliverance, He will continue to be their refuge and fortress. Truly, they will dwell under the shadow of the Almighty! V 1. Beliles, Mark A. and McDowell, Stephen K., America’s Providential History (Charlottesville, Va., 1996), p.233. 2. The person with the highest view has the advantage. He can see what is going on all around him and take offensive action when necessary. But high ground can be lost if you let your guard down. This natural principle applies spiritually to prayer. The Church is the earth’s prayer warrior. We are responsible for prayerfully “patrolling” our spiritual borders to keep the enemy out. We can apply this truth to our current state of world affairs. The war on terrorism is not over. With that, The LORD has given KCM/EMIC a mandate—one of intensifying prayer over our troops around the world. We are to stand together in faith for an end to the killing, destruction and confusion. We are to pray now just as we prayed while they were in the heat of battle. JOIN WITH US IN PRAYER daily as we agree together for the success and protection of our troops in harm’s way: “Father, in Jesus’ Name, we exercise our covenant authority over the enemy. We demand the killing, destruction and confusion over American soldiers and all who stand with them to stop now! We charge angels to protect and guide them, and we speak the blood of Jesus and the protection of the 91st Psalm over them now. Jesus is LORD over all the earth!” * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BVOV : 25
