Richard’s family and loved ones gathered around him for a tearful goodbye as his nurse removed him from life support. Their tears, however, were premature. Richard didn’t die. Awake at Last “After three weeks in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, I woke up,” Richard says. “Pain meds in my IV made me sleep all the time. My family, friends and girlfriend would visit, but I’d fall asleep. I made them stop giving me pain meds. I could handle the pain. What I couldn’t handle was knowing how far my family and friends drove to visit, only to see me sleep. “When I told my mother that both of her parents had been with me when I was being resuscitated, she just listened and didn’t say much. I wondered if she thought I’d hallucinated the whole thing, but it wasn’t a hallucination. Their presence had comforted me and made me feel safe.” A plastic surgeon was called in to repair Richard’s face. The bone had been crushed around his eye and had to be replaced with plastic mesh. Through it all, the doctors kept telling Richard’s parents that he was brain-dead. One day a doctor came into his room and pointing to Richard’s parents asked him, “Do you know who they are?” “Yes,” he replied, “they are my parents. The most important people in my life.” After that, the doctors never called him brain-dead again. “I gave my heart to Jesus when I was 5 years old,” Richard says. “As a Partner with KCM, I’d been reading the BVOV magazine, watching the daily broadcast and reading Kenneth and Gloria’s devotional book From Faith to Faith for years. I’d read From Faith to Faith the morning of the accident. I knew what I needed to do to get well. I started thanking God for healing me.” One day, a neurosurgeon came to Richard’s room. “I want to show you a picture,” he said. He held up a photo of the top of a human brain. “That person has a hole in his brain!” Richard said. “That person is you,” he replied. How could anyone with that big hole in their brain not be brain-dead? There was only one answer: It was a miracle. After one month in the hospital, Richard was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital. Therapists were amazed at how quickly he recovered. For example, one day they measured Richard’s strength and a week later it had tripled. After only 13 days in rehab, Richard was discharged April 20, 2018. He had lost 26 pounds and a great deal of muscle, but he quickly returned to lifting weights—using 1-pound dumbbells. Seven months to the day after the accident, Richard returned to work. Strong and healthy, he was completely restored. Today, he has almost more business than he can handle. “I’m honored to be a Partner with KCM,” Richard says, “not only because I learned to live by faith, but also because Kenneth and Gloria are living examples of the gospel. They get people saved, help other ministries, share God’s Word with so many people—and I get to be part of it all.” Since the accident, being part of sharing the good news about Jesus means even more to Richard than ever. “The thing that’s so real to me now, is how much I owe Him,” says Richard. “First, He died for me. When I died, He gave me the choice to go or stay. When I decided to stay, He healed me. But the greatest thing is He conquered death for us, so we don’t have anything to fear.” Jesus said in John 11:26, “Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” Richard Jordan can confirm it from personal experience. His heart stopped beating for 20 minutes, yet he remained very much alive. Jesus’ words are true. “We’ve been redeemed from death,” Richard says. “The real me didn’t die!” V * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Join Richard in teaching believers how to use their faith.
