Notice that last verse says Jesus healed all manner of sickness and disease. He healed everything from blind eyes to twisted limbs to terminal cancer. He even made the maimed whole (which means He restored missing body parts). And even in the worst cases, He always made it easy for people to receive. That’s good news for us! It means we don’t have to despair if we get a dire report from the doctor. We don’t have to agree with him if he says we’re going to die from some incurable disease. We can look to Jesus the Great Physician for healing, knowing that He can cure anything. He can repair damaged body parts or, if necessary, provide us with totally new ones. He can give us a new heart or a new liver or new kidneys because He made those organs in the first place and they’re easy for Him to replace. What’s more, it’s easy to receive from Him because He’s still the same today as He was 2,000 years ago when He walked the earth! Acts 1:9-11 confirms this. It says that when Jesus ascended back into heaven after the resurrection, as His disciples watched Him disappear into the clouds, two angels appeared to them and said, “Why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come [again] in like manner….” One time I was reading that verse and this revelation hit me: If Jesus will be the same when He returns as He was when He left, He’s still the same right now. He’s still easily entreated and quick to heal. He’s ready to do in our generation what He did in the Bible. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8). He is still “this same Jesus”! The Time for Healing Is Always Now One of the wonderful things we see about Jesus in the Gospels is that He always responded right away when people came to Him to receive healing. He never procrastinated. He never told them they had to stay sick for a while because God was trying to teach them something. He didn’t even make people wait because He was too busy for them or it wasn’t an opportune time. No, Jesus ministered the power of God to people the moment they reached out to Him. No matter where He was or what He was doing, He healed them immediately right then and there. Luke 4:38-39, for example, tells about a time He went to Peter’s house and found Peter’s mother-in-law sick with a great fever. Although He’d come primarily to rest and eat dinner, when the family asked Him to help their sick mama, He made her healing His first priority. “He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose…." In Luke 5:12-13, He responded the same way when He encountered the man who had leprosy. He met the man’s need immediately. Even though in the natural that man was a hopeless case. Even though his body was filled with disease. The moment he saw Jesus, he “fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean: And [Jesus] put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. AND IMMEDIATELY THE LEPROSY DEPARTED FROM HIM” (my emphasis). In Mark 10:47-52, we see the same pattern repeated in the story of blind Bartimaeus. You’ve probably heard about him. He was sitting by the highway begging one day when Jesus and His disciples were passing through Jericho: * * * * * article continues on p. 29 * * * * ******************************************** ********** ADVERTISEMENT ********** A night of refreshing for the Body of Christ CONCERT Eagle Mountain International Church Fort Worth, Texas Stephen & Candy LaFlora Friday | October 26, 2018 | 7 p.m. This concert will be recorded live for Stephen & Candy’s next album.
