But, if you’re like most people, you’ve suffered some disappointments. You have seen some of your prayers go unanswered. And instead of tackling the problem and wrestling with it in prayer and in The WORD until it was solved, you simply wandered away saying, “I guess you never know what God’s going to do.” Well, let me tell you something. You DO know what God’s going to do when you go to Him in accurate, WORD-of-God, Spirit-inspired prayer. He’s going to answer you! He’s going to do exactly what you’ve asked Him to do. How can I be so sure? He’s given us three guarantees! Guarantee No. 1: The Name of Jesus In John 16:23, Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” Look at that verse again. How did Jesus say we should address the Father? In Jesus’ Name. His Name is one of the guarantees we have that our prayers will be answered. If you’ll look in Philippians 2:9-11, you’ll see why. There, the Apostle Paul tells us, “God also hath highly exalted [Jesus], and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” The Name of Jesus carries authority over all other names! It is one of the most powerful guarantees you have that your prayer will be answered. Use the influence that Name carries every time you pray. Then expect every circumstance in your life to bow its knee to the Name of Jesus! Beware of religious slang that robs you of this guarantee. I've heard many a well-meaning believer end his prayer with the phrase, “for Jesus' sake.” But Jesus didn’t say to pray “for His sake.” He said to pray in His Name. I used to make that mistake myself. One night I was praying because I was suffering from a stomachache. “Oh, for Jesus' sake," I prayed, “heal my stomach." After I'd said that a few times, The LORD spoke up on the inside of me. 'Wait a minute,' He said. 'Whose stomach is hurting here—Mine or yours?' “Mine!" I answered. And very plainly, He said, 'Then pray in My Name over your stomach.' Guarantee No. 2: The WORD of God In John 15:7, Jesus gives us another guarantee. He says, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” So many believers wring their hands and worry about whether they're praying according to God's will. “Oh, dear me,” they say, “I certainly can't expect God to do something for me that's outside His will.” And they're absolutely right. But they don't need to waste time standing around looking puzzled! They need to grab their Bibles and find out what the will of God is! God's WORD IS His will. My friend, God has made us some very specific promises in His WORD. And it's His will to fulfill every one of them in your life. In fact, those promises are divinely guaranteed by a contract that's been signed in the blood of Jesus. Think of it this way. Your Bible is the last will and testament of Jesus Christ. It is a record of your inheritance. Everything that belongs to you has been written down in that book. And the smartest thing you can do is to use it. You sure don't want to leave it up on the mantle and just hit the floor crying, “Oh, God! Oh, God! I'm searching for the truth." The LORD would just say, “Well, it's right there on your mantle!" Get your Bible off the mantle, find out what it says about your particular problem, and then base your prayer on it. Don't just base your prayer on what you remember The WORD of God says. Read it! Even if you've read that promise a hundred times, read it again. Let me explain why that's so important. In Matthew 4:4, Jesus says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” The WORD of God is to your spirit what bread is to the body. Can you feed on the memory of a steak? Try this. Close your eyes and see yourself slicing a lemon. Now stick that lemon slice between your teeth and when I say three, bite down on it so hard that the juice squirts into your mouth. One. Two. Three. Bite! 24 : BVOV
